A NEW LOVE “A NEW SONG” (U.S.Private) 1970’s VPM 141 vg+/ex
Unknown and very rare real people DIY LP. All originals. Possibly students from Eastern Washington State College. Surprisingly competent and sounds like a much higher budget than they should have had with some orchestra. The first song starts off quiet with piano and flute, and has a very nice melodic flow with femme vocals, then speeds up with the background choir moving in. The next one is a slow piano ballad with a male and female singer. The third tune has a very mellow choir singing along with a piano, done very well. I will have the fourth song available to hear below it seems to be the only song with guitar. Very effective as you will hear the John Denver like singer. They try to get proggy with the next tune Oracles of God, the male tenor vocal doesn’t quite match with the music….but it’s still a cool sounding song with great drumming. The other side has more of the same, great sunshine pop melody on You’ll See. They come really close to plagiarism with the last song called “When the Lord Comes” as they sing “The sun ain’t gonna shine anymore, the moon will refuse to rise..” but after that bit they take off to a different place. Then it’s time for “Reprise” that closes out the LP…a song that should have been longer, it’s one of the nicest ones on the LP. Nice cover and also comes with a folk psych lyrics insert with drawings of trees and plant life. Cool LP…in excellent shape, there are hairline scuffs and slight surface noise during quieter passages. The cover has some age and shelf wear but is all intact.
