BONZO DOG BAND “TADPOLES” (U.S. IMPERIAL) DIECUT cvr is VG+ HAS SOME CREASING.. DISC IS VG++The Bonzos’ “album for children” is one of their best and just as weird and wacky as their other stuff. Including their sole hit “I’m The Urban Spaceman” (one of their catchiest songs, produced by Paul McCartney) and some of their most effective old timey novelty tunes in “Hunting Tigers”, “By A Waterfall” and “Ali Baba’s Camel”. Special mention must be given to doo wop sendup “Canyons of Your Mind”, which includes the most hilariously inept guitar solo of all time. The first side of Tadpoles closes with The Bonzo’s best known number, “I’m the Urban Spaceman”, their sole foray into the singles chart, and as legend has it, produced by Paul McCartney under a pseudonym. Unlike so many one off hits by acts better known for their albums, “I’m the Urban Spaceman” is one of The Bonzo’s best tunes, and one of Neil Innes’ signature tunes. Sure, it’s of its time, but it’s a hugely enjoyable humorous psychedelic number.
