Description

DEEP PURPLE “Deep Purple In Rock” (U.S. WARNER BROTHERS) 1970, gatefold, vg++/vg++ nice copy “Deep Purple in Rock” featured Ian Gillan on vocals and Roger Glover on bass, substituting original members Rod Evans and Nick Simper respectively, the change was really positive for Deep Purple, and was also the beginning of their golden years.
This album features seven songs, basically composed between the late 1969 and early 1970, with some classic stuff like the dramatic and eerie “Child in Time”, “Speed King” (my US CD version has the intro circumcized), “Living Wreck”, and the proto-metal “Hard Lovin’ Man”, fierce hard rock pieces, a bit raw compared to future Purple albums, where Jon Lord’s organ, along with Ritchie Blackmore’s signature guitar, created a new style to be imitated by many in the future. Seen in perspective, “Deep Purple in Rock”, the whole album, besides brilliant, it’s an indisputable milestone for the genre later known as heavy metal, and it’s one of the greatest Deep Purple albums from the 70s, along with the rough “Fireball”, the sophisticated and brilliant “Stormbringer”, and the towering “Machine Head”.
