AEROSMITH “ROCKS” (U.S.A.COLUMBIA) 1976 VG -COVER MUCH WEAR DISC HOWEVER IS VG++
Rocks is Aerosmith’s most focused album. It’s one of the most dynamic and yet crunchy Hard Rock discs in history. Joe Perry and Brad Whitford’s dual-Guitar assault is as sharp as a red-hot razor. Steven Tyler’s cat in heat yowls have never suited the music better. And Joey Kramer and Tom Hamilton are as steady and relentless as a steam-driven pile driver. Toys In The Attic may have produced many more well known hits, but Rocks is harder, meaner, dirtier. The crunch of some of these songs must be heard to be believed. Very few bands have ever achieved a sound this great. The album opens with the rip roaring ode to lust, Back In The Saddle, which wraps a truly mean and swaggering Guitar sound and dangerously rolling Bass around it’s goofy cowboy aphorisms. It then progresses through the neckbreaking heavy Funk of Last Child and roars straight into the Guitar overdrive assault of Rats In The Cellar. But it’s what comes next, after you leave the more well traveled tracks behind that the album really breaks open. Combination has the absolute crunchiest tone and meanest swagger on the album. And Sick As A Dog, it’s nearly indescribable. It combines chime and crunch like no other song I’ve ever heard. Then you have the downright magmatic Nobody’s Fault. You want to know why Aerosmith are Gods, listen to Rocks, it’s far beyond classic.
