GENESIS “SAME” FROM 1983 W MAMA

Vinyl appears close to NM, very light marks on track B4,  I guess every fan knows that there were 2 Genesises. Genesis I was the progressive rock band led by Peter Gabriel, and Genesis II was a pop group fronted by Phil Collins. Well, it is a little more complicated than that – the first Genesis album was actually closer to Genesis II than I, but never mind.

This album is very much Genesis II – it is catchy, light, and melodic. “That’s All” was the group’s first top 10 hit. “It’s Gonna Get Better” was another very likeable number, and “Illegal Alien” – oh goodness – is a flopped attempt at a political statement. While this does not have the complexity and brilliance of Genesis I’s best work, it is a perfectly good serving of exuberant 1980s rock-pop.
