TED NEELY “1974 AD” (U.S.RCA Records label, pressed in 1973 (original pressing) SEALED/ cut out. Pretty good lp in the folkrock vein.Rock drummer/singer/actor/producer/composer Ted Neeley’s claim to fame is playing the lead role in Jesus Christ Superstar. He first started out in the music business in 1965 with the Teddy Neeley Five. Neeley also composed, produced, and arranged for albums by Meat Loaf, Keith Carradine, Nigel Olsson, Tina Turner, Bo Diddley, and Ray Charles. He achieved minor success when his single, “Paradise”, missed the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1975, settling for a peak position of #110 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. It’s a really nice uptempo fusion of Country & Southern Rock with a crisp bass line, just deserving of a better chart fate.
