Grateful Dead’s second studio album called Anthem of the Sun is full of psychedelia, experimental music and a lot of jam band feeling. In the late 1960’s when the hippies were dominating the world, this band was gaining more and more popularity in the hippie community. Jerry Garcia and his crew offers us some fine and epic songs in here. Songs are pretty long, except the two minute lasting piece “Born Cross-Eyed”. “Alligator” is a really fun jammer. It’s the best part of this album.

A fan of psychedelia will enjoy this album, but this surely isn’t an album that you fully understand with your first listening. You have to listen it many times so you can truly get into it. Give Anthem of the Sun some spinning and you’ll realise that this is a great acid rock album right here. I have the original first US pressing with the Warner Brothers-Seven Arts label.
