Description

Ross Wilson “Mountainman” (U.S. Private) 1971 Extra rare Gatefold nice VG++/VG++

Yet another case of an album becoming known by it’s title, rather than the artist who created it. In this case the artist is one Ross Arthur Wilson, whose only album, “Mountainman”, was recorded in Sacramento, Cal. Original copies of this album are very rare, and more than one dealer has hyped it for obvious reasons. What is on hand is mostly soft, bar-band flavored, folk influenced protest rock with some mild psych elements, mixed with plenty of covers. It should appeal to genre fans more than others and I can see why those claiming this is a lost folk/psych masterpiece feel that way.
US real people psych folk album released only as a promo in Sacramento. The album has an interesting vibe through out the album with fuzz guitars and tabla on the Lay Lady Lay cover. A somehow troubled singer, with a raw sounding drummer and bass player backing him. Recording ha a crude garage feel with some nice abrupt drum fills.
The gatefold cover is in EX, with a little wear and a stain on the front. Vinyl is strong EX.
