Pretty Things are possibly the most underrated or “unluckiest” band in the history of rock. Phil May is an awesome and raw singer, Skip Alan’s incredible drumming and the brilliant Pete Tolson on guitar should have been next big thing in 1975!
The album starts off with a great rocker “Under the volcano” where Tolson shows his incredible skills, then the beautiful “Sad Eye” penned by Tolson, the beatlesque “My Song” should have been a big hit, Skip Alan’s drumming showcases the rocker “Remember that Boy”, the highlight on the album is Povey’s “It isn’t Rockn’roll” where May’s raw voice shines and a fantastic solo from Tolson, a bit of glamrock in the humorous “I’m Keeping”, the bluesy “It’s been so long” has some very nice vocal harmonies and May sing with great passion.
The two last remaining songs are “Drowned Man”(a tribute to a former roadie who drowned in Greece) and a instrumental to end off a great album.
