RUBY JONES “Same” (U.S.Curtom 8011) 1972 M-/M- lovely copy of bluesy rock w r n b vibes highlighted by Ruby’s throat! Early performance from the later known Ruby Starr. Good, tight performances all-round from the musicians. Her voice stays mostly on the earthy powerful side without too much theatrics. She was with Black Oak Arkansas as well   Very produced and commercial over-all but with a couple of worthy tracks including Stone Junkie, a Curtis Mayfield cover so I read. Warning, for brass-likers only! A final mention must go to the funky, break-beat drumming, which seems opposed to the general style of the music, but works well most of the time and injects life into the proceedings.produced by Curtis Mayfield Tough One
