GARY HIGGINS “RED HASH” (NUFUSMOON) 1973 VG+/M- INSERT HERE TEXTURED COVER HAS LARGE STAIN ON RIGHT SIDE LIGHT RING STARTING
NO SPLITS OR WRITING…DISC APPEARS M-
The missing link between Skip Spence and Iron & Wine. More melodic than you’d expect
for an acid folk artist. Only one track qualifies as freak folk–the Beefheartian
“Down on the Farm”. The rest is pretty, melancholic, and slightly trippy but
totally accessible. Along with Vashti Bunyan, Sibylle Baier and Linda Perhacs,
Higgins is another recentlyrediscovered/unearthed folky who’s music is well worth
the excavation. In particular the opening cut “Thicker Than A Smokey” is just amazing,
totally lysergic but with a nice rural feel as well.
One of the best private press LP’s of all time. RARE!
