HEADSTONE “Lookin In”(U.S. Starr) 1974 Very rare private piece.. Progressive psych! M/M
Still Looking from 1974 was the only LP by this US band. Headstone’s sound on this album is a pretty heavy progressive rock style with hints of psychedelia. I wouldn’t really call this heavy psych since this is more prog than it’s psych I think. The guitarwork is brilliant and the organ sounds damn good as well.
I enjoy all of these songs but especially the B-side is a total jackpot. “Piece of Mind” and “I Love You” might be two of my favorites on this strong LP but it’s pretty hard to choose any highlights since all of these songs are pretty great. All in all I think this lone Headstone record deserves a rating of 4,5 stars out of five. It’s not far from perfect but because of the slightly weaker A-side I’m gonna have to take a half star away. Really good work anyhow.
